YOU MAY END UP WITH A MILD INSIGNIFICANT RASH AT THE OLD KNOB AND/OR THE BOOT EDGE. NICE AND SLOW IS THE KEY AT CRITICAL STEP #3, TO PREVENT TEARING UP THE BOOT. Of course the techs will even scare you about inevitable damage should you decide to ask them how it is done, without really revealing how it is easily done. I am sure that the method I am about to share is only too well known to the Mini Master Techs who are there to make a livelihood and not wanting to share the obvious. It seems that after looking at so many postings and not really finding THE easy, sure fire way of removing the OEM shift knob off ANY MINI with a solid gaiter, going to the dealer to have the work done or destroying the boot were pathetically, the only options available.
